About Tulla

The nearby village of Tulla is steeped in history. Its name 'An Tulach' means hilltop and 'Tulach na nEaspag' meaning hill of the Bishops indicates its monastic past. Megalithic Tombs, ancient Church sites and Holy Wells abound and on top of the Windswept Hill was the site of the original Church built in 620AD. Today the later 18th Century structure can still be seen and restoration work is underway.
